The View From AWP Chicago: Writer-Con 2012
Working so closely with LFC Press/&NOW Books in the press courses at Lake Forest College, students have the opportunity to explore the submissions for The &NOW Awards. In exploring experimental/creative writing, they unintentionally learn what constitutes as good creative writing. The Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) is the perfect place for these students to further network and indulge in the creative writing community in Chicago. In her article “The View from AWP Chicago: Writer-Con 2012,” Stephanie Vanderslice writes, “since most of us are teachers, we also find ourselves talking about the teaching of creative writing.” Thus, participating in the event is beneficial to learn about creative writing from both the student and teacher perspectives. How does one teach creative writing? In attending the event, we can better understand the value in both teaching and practicing creative writing; furthermore, we can appreciate the evolution of writing and the places it is going.
